Building village through food, care, and reciprocity
The Green Bean Collective is a community-based food redistribution and village-building initiative based in the Durham Region, Ontario. We believe that in a time of food inflation and increasing isolation, abundance and connection are possible—but only if we build them intentionally.
We work to redistribute surplus food, effort, tools, knowledge, and care. We operate in the spaces between charity and commerce, between isolation and over-professionalization, between everyone doing everything alone and everything becoming a transaction.
We harvest surplus fruit from backyards, community gardens, and local spaces with consent and care.
We ensure surplus reaches people through relationship and invitation, not just charity.
We're building a time bank system for community support where giving and asking feel safe and natural.
We host skill shares on seed saving, preservation, growing, and mutual aid.

How this work started with plants, seeds, and the realization that we don't just have a food problem—we have a village problem.
